Can We Have Group Shots?
Although my couples mainly book me because of the documentary wedding photography approach that I use, I still make it clear that I have absolutely no objections to group shots.
They are important & I do believe they still have a massive value in the documentary wedding photography world. They don’t have to be stuffy, they don’t have to be boring. They can be fun & they can be relaxed.
You probably have the notion of standing in a line everyone looking uncomfortable, bored, a few people have their eyes closed, some may even be picking their teeth! Don’t worry. I try to make the group shots I do relaxed & as natural as possible. There’s no reason they have to be formal & uninteresting.
I work quickly on the wedding day when doing group shots. If I have an assistant with me then they help coordinate & round up people with the help from an usher or someone that knows everyone that needs to be in the group photographs. It is always worth having someone in mind from your wedding that knows who the important people are for the group shots. They can save us valuable time when getting people together.
I suggest around 6 groups which can take between 20-30 minutes. Nice & quick, meaning you get to go back to your guests without stressing about all of the group shots. I’m going to do my best to make sure you enjoy the group shots even though you may have been dreading them!
